Bhutan Multidimensional Poverty Index 2022

National MPI Reports

This report presents the findings from Bhutan’s Moderate MPI, which is based on data from the 2022 Bhutan Living Standards Survey (BLSS). The Moderate MPI revises the structure of the original, national, acute MPI by including gender and aspects of quality of service delivery in the more ambitious indicators. The report explores the findings of the Moderate MPI and also presents trends from 2017–2022 using the original MPI.

The Moderate MPI measures multidimensional poverty across 14 weighted indicators grouped within three dimensions of health, education and living standards and will be updated and used as the official national MPI of Bhutan throughout the coming decade. It is hoped that the Moderate MPI will guide the 13th Five Year Development Plan and future poverty policies and programmes.
