MOOC Course: Designing a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI)

OPHI is delighted to launch its first Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) entitled ‘Designing a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI)’ next month. The course, which is comprised of lessons, videos, quizzes and a discussion forum, will run for five weeks from 16 March. It is jointly developed with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and creates an interactive resource based on the joint handbook about building national multidimensional poverty indices which was launched with UNDP last year. The course will provide registrants with an introduction to developing a holistic multidimensional poverty index (MPI) to complement income-based measures and reveal multiple overlapping deprivations across health, education and living standards. On hand to facilitate the discussion online will be members of the OPHI and UNDP teams. 

It is open to all and recommended for anyone with an interest in multidimensional poverty measurement, including students, academics, technicians and policymakers. This introduction to multidimensional poverty measurement is intended to help inform the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially SDG 1 to ‘end poverty in all its forms and dimensions’.
